“Paj ntaub” – flower cloth, is a traditional Hmong textile art that is centuries old. Paj ntaub includes traditional needlepoint and batiking techniques. These clothes were made by Hmong women and young girls using images representing family, nature, and folklore. Each year young Hmong women will make new dresses with different images of what they hope to gain for the new year: a home, healthy crops, a husband, etc… These dresses would be showcased at the next harvest festival, the Hmong new year.
Glass has a historical significance by carrying cultures across time. The Hmong culture has the same destiny as glass: survive for the next hundreds of years or break into a million pieces devoured by the Earth to be forgotten.
